India is known world over for its family values. When the family is breaking up in western countries, the value which Indian attaches to their families can be an example to the world. People from world over appreciate the value which the Indians attach to the family. The family is the center of Indian society. The family system is an institution in India which has survived through ages. The family system in India not only helps the children and the elderly to grow but it also helps. There is dependency of each family member with the other members of the family. It nurtures an emotional bonding between the family members.

A girl who in earlier part of her life lives with her parents moves to live with their in laws. She made a lot of adjustments and mingles with the family of her husband. The family becomes even stronger with the arrival of 'Bahu' or daughter in law in the family. She binds the family and brings a lot of fun and frolic in the family. The Indian festival also presents the testimony of strong bond that exists between the family members. The festivals like “Raksha Bandhan”, “Bhai Duj” and “Karvachauth” are example of great family culture that exists in India. The first two celebrates the relationship of brother and sister while the other one celebrated the relationship of husband and wife. Husband and wife is the root of a family. There is a great bond between the husband and wife in India unlike the west where the divorce rate are very high. The relationship between husband and wife is given high importance in the culture. The system of marriage is also a great family affair. It lasts for a few days. All the distant family members gather on this day to celebrate the marriage.

Recently the western culture has influenced the Indian society and especially in the urban areas, people   are now resorting to the nuclear family system which is a break away from the earlier system where the people lived in a joint family system. There are other examples of the great Indian family value system like the younger must touch the feet of the elder. The elders should sit first and the younger should always leave the sit for the elders.

The other great aspect in the Indian families is the hospitality of the guests. The guests according g to Indian culture must be treated like God. They should be treated very well. This basic family value has made India a very hospitable country. People from around the world come to India and India treats them with open arms. This particular aspect of Indian culture attracts people from all over the world.
